School Mass: Tuesday 29th September 12.00 in the church. All parents/friends welcome.
Staff Meeting: Thursday 1st October.

Non-Uniform Day: Friday 9th October (€2 fundraiser).

News and Information:

  • Congratulations to last years 6th class girls - Yagmur Dal, Casey O'Neill, Kathleen Fitzgerald, Eilera Slaitaite, who won prizes in the Wicklow County Council logo competition.
  • Receipts have been issued for all money paid to the school for Art/Craft, Journals and use of Books. If you have not received a receipt, please check your child's bag or write a note to her teacher. Phone Calls to the School: There is only one phone line into the office, so please do not ring the school unless it is really urgent. Whenever possible, we would appreciate it if you could send a note to your child's teacher preferably in her journal.
  • When your daughter is out sick it is not necessary to ring the school unless it is very contagious, simply fill in the Absence Slips at the back of the journal. Infant classes, please send a note, not forgetting to include the date and the number of days your child was absent. You may email the school at stmichaelsgnsark@eircom.net.
  • Uniform: There has been no change to our school uniform. Some minor changes, designed to save on expenditure have been proposed and will be discussed at the A.G.M. If you wish to put forward any ideas or concerns, please make sure you are at the meeting.
  • Old Mobile Phones: Old mobile phones are still being collected by the school. We have our first 300. Thanks to all who sent them in. It doesn't matter how battered they are, please keep them coming. All phones collected will be sent to the Jack and Jill foundation in exchange for Interactive Whiteboards and projectors.

Reminders:

  • The B.O.M. does not take responsibility for children on the premises before 9.20.
  • If parents have chosen to give their children personal sanitizers, the school cannot accept responsibility for their use or abuse. Please remind your child not to share them with other girls and to avoid touching their eyes after use. Please note the manufacturer's warnings on the back.
  • In case of emergency, it may be necessary for the principal to take a sick child's temperature at school. Thermometers for use in the ear have been purchased by the Parents Association. Disposable covers will be used. If you have any objections, please send a note via your child's teacher. This will only be done in cases of extreme emergency.
  • If a child is being collected from school before 3.00 by anyone except a parent, we must have written permission from parents/guardians. For the safety and protection of the children we must be strict about this rule. A phone call to the office will not suffice.

Health and Hygiene:

  • Please make sure your child has her own small towel/facecloth to dry her hands, as all towels have been removed from the toilets. This cloth should be kept in a bag and washed daily.
  • Many children are being sent into school sick. If your child is unwell, please keep her at home until she has fully recovered.
  • Dogs are not permitted in the school playgrounds. We are having a problem with dogs soiling the yards. This is posing a health risk for your children. If your dog soils the yard, please clean it up.

Parents Association:

  • All parents are automatically members of the Parents Association. New members are always welcome on the committee. However, even if you do not wish to go forward for election, please come along to the A.G.M., have a chat, share your ideas and show your support to those who are willing to work on your behalf and on behalf of your children.
  • A text will be sent out on Monday 28th September to remind all parents about the A.G.M. If you do not receive a text it is important that you inform the school in writing on Tuesday. Please note that we have used the first mobile number on the form you filled in at the beginning of term. If you wish to have this changed, please send your name, child's name, teacher and new number in writing to the school. Anytime you change your number we will need this information.

Everyone seems to have settled back to school very well. The atmosphere in the classrooms and yards is lovely and happy. Our Junior Infants are now staying in school until 2.00 and are coming in smiling, as if they've been here forever. Thanks and well done to Kathleen O'Neill and Aisling Rees for all their hard work helping them to get settled so happily.

As always, if your child appears worried or unhappy, or if you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school immediately, following our agreed procedures.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday night.

S. Biddulph.
Principal.
